Ezy-Fit Marine are Awarded ABS Type Approval
In January of 2012, Ezy-Fit Marine and Ezy-Fit Hydraulics gained American Bureau of Shipping Type Approval for several models of heavy duty Ride Control cylinders used on the US Navy Littoral Combat Ships and Joint High Speed Vessels. Ezy-Fit Hydraulics has now successfully completed Manufacturing Assessment by ABS, which is a site assessment of the manufacturing and Quality Assurance procedures, and awarded Product Type Approval certificate 11-HS798178-PDA.
The cylinder designs have now been used for several years and were previously case by case approved as the requirement arose. Due to the success of the initial vessels of the Class we now believe that there will ultimately be a large fleet of these vessels ordered by the US Government and built by Austal USA and we therefore decided that while initially quite expensive, the long term cost savings of Type Approval to both Ezy-Fit and Austal USA would be advantageous.
The materials used in the manufacture of these cylinders comply with the ABS requirement for very low temperature use in Arctic and Antarctic geographical areas and have excellent impact properties at low temperatures. The materials were carefully chosen for this reason and also to resist the extreme slam load induced pressures these cylinders have to endure in very rough seas.
